Voip – What Is It And What Can It Do For Me?

By: Gary Benton

VOIP is an exciting technology that offers at lot of freedom for telephone users. The letters stand for Voice Over Internet Protocol. Let’s start with the last two letters. Internet Protocol, or IP is simply the way computers communicate over the the internet. Computers or other devices put data packets together in a certain way so they can travel through the internet and arrive at the right place. Voice Over IP means simply sending audio or sounds over the internet. To make it simple, VOIP is a way of talking over the internet.

For telephone users, this opens up a world of possibilities. To simplify, a little box connects the phone to the internet. When you make a call, the signal goes from the phone into the box where your voice is converted to internet packets. The packets travel to the VOIP company and your voice comes out of the internet and into the phone lines and to a phone on the other end. This is transparent to both users, meaning as a VOIP customer, you can use the same phones you’ve always used, and everything works the same way as with your previous phone company. However, there’s a lot of added features. If you stay at a friend’s house, just plug in your little VOIP box into your friend’s internet connection, and plug your phone into the box. If anyone calls your phone number, your phone will ring. In fact, you can do this anywhere in the world. My wife and I have done it in South East Asia and Australia as well as the US.

If you have a laptop, you can use it as a phone. You can use the microphone and speakers that are built into the laptop or an inexpensive headset. We’ve even made calls in Asian airports to family and friends with our laptop. We’ve used VOIP for over two years, and love it. It’s great to be in a hotel room in Thailand, hear the laptop ring, and talk to a friend!

Moving across town or across the country? You can keep your phone number. No charges for getting phone service in your new home. All you need is an internet connection. Whether you move to another state or overseas, your friends and family can call.

Liberty International has been a leader in VOIP technology. They offer a superb VOIP package, called Global Freedom Phone, with free unlimited calling to any number in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico and a host of other features like Caller ID, simultaneous ring (your cell phone can ring and you can answer either one), voice mail, 3 way calling, and much more. If a customer refers three others, their service is free. This option is very attractive to those on a limited income, and can be expanded to provide opportunities to work at home.

For anyone who would like to save money on their phone service, and add powerful features, Global Freedom Phone can provide this and more. Find out how you can enjoy the benefits of VOIP.

Wifi – What Can It Do For You?

By: Gary Benton

WiFi has been a hot buzzword for many years now. People are searching for it on the Internet, looking for WiFi hotspots in hotels, cafes, and airports. What it WiFi, and what can it do for you?

WiFi, formerly known as 802.11B, is the most common type of wireless networking around. For those who have a laptop and want to get connected to the Internet, WiFi is the way most users connect. Most laptops have WiFi built in, and many homes with high speed Internet through cable or DSL use WiFi within the home to connect laptops, desktop computers, printers, and scanners.

I started using WiFi ten years ago to get Internet from the university where I worked. It was so much faster than my modem. I haven’t looked back. When traveling in Thailand, Malaysia, Viet Naam, Cambodia, and Australia, my wife and I used WiFi hotspots wherever we could. We’d open up our laptops and catch up with friends and family by email, Facebook, phone calls through our VOIP system, and even live videoconferencing. We also ran our business from our laptops. After traveling for a year, we came back the the US, and faced the same challenge of finding WiFi hotspots. Getting an air card at $60 per month with a two year contract was not an attractive option, and the monthly charge for a cell phone could easily be another $60 a month. Added to our hesitation at signing a two year contract were the limits on Internet usage with the air card. Watch a few YouTube videos, and we’d go over the limit. Plus the air card would only work for one of our laptops, not both. We didn’t know where to turn.

Then we found out about a plan that offers unlimited Internet for multiple computers, as well as unlimited talk minutes and unlimited texting, for less than we would have paid for an air card and a cell phone, and there are no contracts. Wow Mobile provides phones and cell service in a way that enables the cell phone to be a WiFi hotspot. The phone gets 3G Internet through cell phone towers, and makes it available through WiFi to multiple computers. If the hotel, airport, or cafe doesn’t have WiFi, just pull the cell phone out of your pocket and you have fast, unlimited Internet through the cell phone.

At a business conference recently, attendees needed Internet for their laptops, and there wasn’t any to be found. However, out of the 20 businessmen, two were using Wow Mobile. They pulled out their phones, and very quickly everyone was connected by WiFi to the Internet and business continued. Even while talking on their cell phones, people were using the Internet.

Are you tired of paying high prices for your air card, tired of finding WiFi hotspots only part of the time? Find out how to get unlimited Internet to multiple computers wherever you go.

Wow Mobile And Wifi

Author: Gary Benton

In the late 1990’s Dr. Nefi was anxious to get high speed Internet access at home (this is a true story, but the name has been changed). Dr. Nefi lived across the street from the university where he taught Electrical Engineering. He liked the high speed access at work, but the modem at home was very slow. He and a fellow professor began to develop a radio link using 10 GHz radio transceivers.

Wireless Internet was very expensive at the time, and their system used cheap hardware. Halfway through the project however, 802.11b wireless networking, now known as WiFi, hit the market, and not long afterwards, the university put up a WiFi access point. After waiting a few months for prices to come down, Dr. Nefi and I purchased antennas, cables, and wireless cards, and were soon surfing the web at high speed, thanks to our University’s Internet connection.

In the last decade, WiFi has become very popular, and is now available at Starbucks, McDonalds, and many hotels and airports. People can be seen with laptops at restaurants and coffee shops, surfing the web. While travelers wait at airports, they pull out their laptops, and hope to find a free hotspot so they can check their email or watch an online video.

In recent months, smartphones running the Google Android operating system have become popular, and will soon outsell Apple’s iPhone. These “Google Phones” have built in WiFi, enabling users to surf the web at high speed whenever a WiFi hotspot is near. When a hotspot is not nearby, users can surf the web using high speed Internet from cell phone towers.

Now an innovative new company has taken advantage exciting possibilities based on the combination of these two technologies. Wow Mobile is a division of Liberty International, a leader in VOIP technology, a unique product that provides telephone service through the Internet. Wow Mobile offers low cost cellular phone plans, featuring unlimited talk, text, and Internet for a flat rate. One can purchase smartphones and service through Wow Mobile, or purchase a phone from another source and use one of Wow Mobile’s plans. In either case, users can get unlimited high speed Internet from cell towers to their smartphone using G3 technology. The combination of G3 and WiFi really starts making things happen.

Smartphones can get a high speed G3 Internet connection through the cell phone towers, and make the Internet available through WiFi. In other words, the smartphone becomes a WiFi hotspot nearly anywhere. If your hotel doesn’t offer WiFi, that’s not a problem. If you are at the airport, and the only WiFi hotspots cost money to use, no problem. You can even save at home by replacing your DSL or cable Internet with WiFi from your cell phone. How much could you save by getting rid of that bill?

Best of all, there’s no limit with Wow Mobile’s plans. I know from experience that after watching a few YouTube videos on my laptop, it’s easy to go over the data limits that the major carriers impose. Then the extra charges really start piling on. If you’d like to have a WiFi hotspot that you can carry in your pocket, check out Wow Mobile. Wow Mobile and WiFi are a great combination.
